Hair Transplant is a kind of surgery through which an area with thin or no hair is filled with the hair you already have. These transplants have been performed since the 1950s, and there has been a drastic change and improvement in the techniques in recent years. These methods can also lead to some complications and side effects including conspicuous scars, pain in the scar area, temporary numbness, destruction of a great number of healthy hair follicles and many more. The roots of transplanted hair should be bald resistant. And these bald resistant hair roots are usually present on the back or sides of the scalp (DONOR AREA).
The procedure is generally performed in a clinic where the surgeon cleans the person's scalp and injects medicine to numb the back of your head. There are two methods for hair transplant: follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) or follicular unit extraction
The number of grafts present per sq. cm determines the density of the hair. Each sq. cm contains about 80 follicular units. Hence, the more grafts you transplant in the bald area the denser the appearance. For a natural look, more than 40 follicular units per sq. cm should be implanted. Transplanting around 40 FU s/sq. cm requires lot of technical skill and it is certainly not an easy task. The skill of transplanting more number of grafts in a particular area is called Dense Packing.
The process of transplantation is performed in sessions in case more follicular units need to be placed. In Mega and Super Mega sessions more number of grafts is transplanted at a single session. It all depends on the number of grafts transplanted.
The entire process is performed in clinic where many well trained surgical assistants are on duty who are adept at utilizing the latest equipments available, to their best.
The Strip Method
In the strip Method of hair transplantation, a long strip of scalp is cut out through the use of a scalpel. It is consequently cut into individual grafts and the process is done at various institutes. There are various complications and problems attached to this method that include conspicuous scars, pain in the scar area, temporary numbness, destruction of a great number of healthy hair follicles etc.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
FUE is gentler and better method of hair transplantation which is more modern. In this method, hair follicles are taken out one by one in the form of follicular units (FU's) using very fine instruments with greatest precision.
